Local students nominated to All-USA Academic Team

Two students from North Seattle Community College have been nominated to be members of the All-USA Academic Team. Both North Seattle residents are members of Phi Theta Kappa, the honor society for two-year college students.

Sarel Rowe of Ballard is president of NSCC's Phi Theta Kappa chapter for the 1999-2000 school year. She is completing her Associate of Arts Degree at NSCC and has been active on campus organizing volunteer tutors, working with disabled students, participating in diversity activities, and being a representative in student government on the district council. She maintains a 3.95 grade point average. Upon graduating from NSCC, she plans to go on to get a business degree from the University of Washington.

Robin McClane, a northwest Seattle resident, is a full-time mother of two teens, who accepted the challenge of returning to school to become a full-time student. She is earning a 3.95 grade point average while working toward her Associate of Arts degree. She has worked extensively with Camp Fire Boys and Girls, the Carkeek Park Environmental Education, Greenwood Seafair Parade, and has been an active volunteer in her children's sports activities. She is also a Master Writing Tutor at NSCC's writing center and a member of Phi Theta Kappa. After earning her AA degree, she plans to transfer to the UW.
