NSCC announces rosters of basketball teams

North Seattle Community College recently announced the rosters of its men's and women's basketball teams, both of which are representing the Seattle Community College District in league play - the district's first teams in 20 years.

Dubbed the Seattle Community College Storm, the women's team recently took on the Gray's Harbor Community College Chokers in a Dec. 13 game, while the men's team played the Spokane Falls Community College Sasquatch in a Dec. 16 match.

Both home games took place at North Seattle Community College's Wellness Center, at 9600 College Way.

Women's head coach Brad Gagne is upbeat about his team's the first season. "We have dedicated student/athletes that come to practice excited to learn and improve every day," he said.

The team roster includes the backcourt guard tandem of freshman Tamara Clark of Ingraham High School, and sophomore Denisha Saucedo of Kent Meridian High, and post players Tanichia Young, a freshman from Summit High, and Mary Tucker, a freshman from Mt. Baker High. Elizabeth Donohue of Blanchet High and Laura Frederickson of McGlaughlin High, in South Dakota, add depth and rebounding to the mix, while sophomore Jaclyn Grife of Garfield High, provides strong outside shooting and defense.

Coach Gagne is assisted by Peter Johnsen and Amy Parker.

Men's Head Coach Billy Rodgers says his team is "loaded with explosive perimeter players. We will play an exciting brand of basketball, featuring pressure defense and fast-break offense. This is a building season and we hope to start a solid tradition of basketball in Seattle."

The roster includes sophomores Emeka Enyinwas of Grant High in Portland, Randellins Hardy of La Grange, Ga., and Jerry Williams of Garfield High. Freshmen players include Peter Perez of Federal Way High, Lamar Cummings of Ingraham High, Alex Carter of Newport High in Bellevue, Aaron Cossette of Enumclaw High, Maurice Hines of Nathan Hale High, David Parker of Armijo High in Oakland, Byron Thomas of Garfield and Pierre Young of Hazen High.

Coach Rodgers is assisted by Glenn Turner and Aarick Burglund.
