Seattle Mayor Paul Schell issued a proclamation designating Aug. 6 as "Jim Daly Day" to honor longtime Fremont business owner Jim Daly, who is currently battling cancer.
The proclamation reads as follows:
"Whereas Fremont is the Center of the Universe, and a fun and funky place built of lovely friendships and friendly rivalries; and
"Whereas W. James (Jim) Daly, of Daly's Home Decorating Centers, who has spent 40 years in the world of color and beautification, has long donated color and labor and love to the many and myriad projects which have brightened and vivified Fremont, and,
"Whereas, the Fearsome and Frolicsome Fiefdom of Fremont hath a long and lustrous history of community activism, be it noted that Fremonsters had as their model Jim Daly, and
"Whereas paint from Daly's Custom Decorating has painted out miles of graffiti and brightened miles of murals and projects, and
"Whereas Jim, who has long been known as the God Mother of Fremont, was its first and foremost King of Chambers (President of the Chamber of Commerce), and its most regular volunteer for tasks both mundane and backbreaking, and
"Whereas Jim Daly helped make Fremont a small town residing inside a large one, and
"Whereas Jim Daly is a Center of Fremont's Universe,
"Mayor School of the illustrious and beloved City of Seattle, at the request of Jim's many friends and admirers,
"honors Jim Daly as 'First Citizen' of the Artistic Republic of Fremont, and
"proclaims Jim Daly a much beloved citizen of our fine city, and a Fremonster through and through, and
"proclaims Friday, Aug. 6, as Jim Daly Day,
"Long Live Jim Daly and his way of being!"

Mayor proclaims 'Jim Daly Day'
