Stan Stapp may write a popular column for the Jet City Maven, but it's his wife, Dorothy that's been getting all the ink lately. Dorothy, whose expert gardening skills earned her a profile in the Seattle P-I in May, is also featured in the summer issue of Rebecca's Garden magazine, which is published nationally.
The article, penned by Seattle freelance garden writer Martha Polk Wingate, describes the Stapps' successful efforts to replace a concrete driveway at their Wedgwood home into a beautiful patio garden "full of flowers, fruits and vegetables." Dorothy pretty much handled the gardening chores, while Stan built raised beds for a kitchen garden.
In addition to a well-written story and full-color photographs, the magazine also offers tips from Dorothy on "growing edibles in tight spaces," "how to get the most out of a small yard," and how to grow the "earliest tomatoes on your block."
The magazine may be hard to find, but copies are available at Barnes & Noble and some local supermarkets. The summer issue spans two months, so it would be wise to go ahead and ask your local store manager if they carry Rebecca's Garden magazine if you don't see it.
