A chalk art competition, scavenger hunt, and insect safari are just some of the many activities planned for an upcoming event called "Kid's Day in Fremont," on Saturday, Aug. 7.
Other events include a public appearance by the one and only JP Patches and Gertrude, an ice cream social, live music, a "Build a Journal" workshop, and a "Jungle Bounce."
New to this semi-annual event this year will be the first annual Florence M. Burke Memorial Spelling Bee, which will be held at the History House, 790 N. 34th St. (under the Aurora Bridge), from 10-10:45 a.m. Registration takes place at 9:45 a.m. and the Spelling Bee is open to children 6-10 years old.
The rest of the schedule is as follows:
At Solstice Plaza:
Chalk Art Competition from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., followed by Chalk Art Awards at 2:30 p.m. Anzanga Marimba Band will perform beginning at 3 p.m. Entrants must register in advance.
At History House:
JP Patches and Gertrude will appear from noon to 1 p.m., sponsored by U-Park & Steve's Fremont News; an Ice Cream Social takes place from noon to 4 p.m., an Insect Safari with Don Ehlen will be held from noon to 5 p.m., and Art and Face Painting with Dhyani Lyons will take plan from noon to 1 p.m.
At NorthStar Bank:
"Jungle Bounce" will take place from noon to 4 p.m., sponsored by NorthStar Bank.
At Fremont Public Library:
A "Build a Journal" workshop will begin at 3 p.m. for children over 6 (attendance limited to 20 kids).
Beginning at Ladybug Books:
a Scavenger Hunt, from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.; A Troll Tour with Professor Pompous will take place at 1 p.m. and at 3 p.m., sponsored by Fremont Classic Pizzeria.
Kid's Day in Fremont is sponsored by Ladybug Books, and produced with the generous cooperation of Lake Union Center, Sandy Bradley's Potluck, Muir Public Relations, and History House.
