Wallingford Kiddies Parade, July 18

Under a theme of "50 years of fun," the Wallingford Chamber of Commerce will hold its 50th annual Wallingford Kids Parade on Sunday, July 18. The parade will begin at 2 p.m., with the parade route beginning at Sunnyside Avenue N. and North 45th, and continuing westward along North 45th to Woodlawn N. Parade participants and the public are invited to gather at the parking lot of the former Lincoln High School following the parade where there will be music and carnival games.

The Seafair-sanctioned event will concide with a street fair along Wallingford Avenue, from North 45th to either North 44th or North 43rd, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

"We're looking for alumni from the first parade" to participate this year, said Sallye Soltner, a chamber member who is serving as this year's parade chairperson.

Moving day for Wallingford schools

A recent edition of an Internet newsletter called the Wallingford E-News reports that Ballard High School will move out of the former Lincoln High School building in Wallingford - which has served as Ballard's temporary home the past two years - and back to its new school for the fall of 1999.

Latona Elementary School will then move out of its building and into Lincoln for the 1999-2000 school year. TOPS is also scheduled to move back to its new building at the Seward School and Stevens Elementary will move to Lincoln in its place.

The move out is scheduled to be complete by July 5. The move in at Lincoln and at McDonald is scheduled to happen beginning Aug. 2.

In addition, construction will immediately start on Latona on July 2. Construction is also scheduled at Lincoln this summer. A new roof will be put on some of the wings and windows in several locations on the older wings will be replaced.

July events at old Sand Point Naval Base

Indoor bungee jumping, a suspended aerial ballet and flaming angels are just part of the unpredictable and hilarious mayhem of UMO Ensemble's latest cutting edge performance, "Millennium Circus." The improvisation-based, environmental performance will be presented in a 40,000-square-foot hangar at the former Sand Point Naval Base, located at 7400 Sand Point Way. The fun begins each evening at 8 p.m., Thursdays through Sundays from July 9 through Aug. 15.

Tickets are on sale now and range from $10-15. Discounted rates are available for students, senior citizens, children and groups.

Pay-what-You-Can previews are Wednesday, July 7 and Thursday, July 8.

For ticket reservations to Millennium Circus, call 206-463-2128. Tickets may also be purchased at Elliot Bay Books or the University Bookstore.

Also taking place at Sand Point Naval Base will be a free interactive art exhibit titled "Millennium Approaches," which will be presented by the Sand Point Arts and Cultural Exchange (SPACE). The exhibit gives the public a chance to express feelings about the turn of the millennium-whether fear, hopefulness or even apathy-creating works of art in many different media.

The exhibit will fill a 20,000 square-foot airplane hangar with colorful "ArtStations" providing the motivation and tools to create many kinds of work, from haiku to sand sculpture, including making an individual contribution to the community mural and time capsule projects facilitated by professional artists.

The exhibit is open from 6-10 p.m., Thursday-Sunday, July 8-Aug.15 and runs concurrently with UMO Ensemble's Millennium Circus.

The exhibit is free and family-friendly! For more information call SPACE at 206-522-9529.
