Sound Transit gives update on RTA at Wallingford meeting

At the Wallingford Chamber May meeting, two proposed light rail stations in the University District were discussed: one at Northeast 45th and 15th Avenue NE; the other at Pacific Avenue and 15th Avenue NE. If all goes according to schedule, construction of the light rail tunnel would begin in the year 2001, and would be completed in 2006.

One idea that's being is building a mezzanine level that might connect University Way with the NE 45th station. A couple things that are NOT currently in the works are Park N Ride lots and public restrooms, said the public officials. "Our main emphasis is to have (light rail users) arrive by bus, bicycle or foot," said David Goldberg, a station area planner for the City. That comment prompted Chamber member Sallye Soltner to respond: "I know very few women who have to dress up for work to bicycle or walk."
