A twenty-four hour event that combines the thrill of competition, fun and fund-raising for a good cause will be held at Roosevelt High School on June 4 and 5 starting at 4 pm.
The Seattle Relay for Life is an American Cancer Society event with several goals: build community spirit; celebrate cancer survivors and their victories in the fight against cancer; deliver cancer education messages regarding prevention and early detection; increase awareness of the services offered by the American Cancer Society; provide an event owned by the community and run by volunteers; and raise funds for local cancer research, education, advocacy and patient services.
The event includes a Luminary Ceremony that will be held at 9:30 p.m., June 4. Hundreds of luminary candles will be lit in memory and honor of loved ones and friends who have been taken by cancer or are surviving cancer. A special ceremony and moment of silence will following the candle lighting.
Luminaries can be purchased by filling out the form provided in this month's Jet City Maven. Cost is whatever you can afford to donate. To buy one by phone, call Stephanie McNear at 425-869-5588, ext. 135. Let her know you saw this on our website and therefore don't have a copy of the form.
