At some point in our lives, we have all come into contact with at least one veteran, be it a friend, co-worker, relative, or neighbor. Rarely, however, are these veterans granted the respect deserved. They have fought to secure the freedom and the peaceful life that most Americans cannot even fathom living without. Their blood, sweat, and tears have ensured the safety of our neighborhoods, parks, and playgrounds. And yet, their voices are often ignored. Veterans have so much wisdom to give and experiences to relate, even in our time of peace and prosperity. If only we would listen.
This contest is a chance for students in the Puget Sound area to meet and talk with the many honorable soldiers who surround them by giving them an opportunity to ask veterans about their experiences. We want to know what the students have learned from these men and women and about the interesting stories that are so easily told if someone would just ask about them and listen carefully.
Prizes range from $250 for first prize, $150 for second, and $100 for third.
