If you've ever driven up 8th Avenue NE, you might have noticed the traffic circle at Northeast 120th. It's not hard to miss. It's usually so filled with grass and weeds you can't see the other side. Neighbors are frequently seen hacking back the grass, picking out litter or washing graffiti off the yellow caution signs.
This will all soon change. A neighborhood matching grant has been awarded to replant the traffic circle. The grant will cover the cost of new plants, but the neighbors will have to match the grant in elbow grease.
Whether you live by the circle or just want to have fun, we invite you to come help us replant the circle on Saturday, April 10, from 10 a.m. until whenever it's done.
You can help us dig out the old weeds, help us replant, get the water or just stand by and keep us company. It should be fun for all ages and a great "Earth Day" project as well. Bring your own tools or use some loaned to us by Peder Nielsen of Home Realty.
Or, if you're feeling really ambitious and creative, you can help us pick out the plants which we'll purchase ahead of time. I have a list from the City of some great plant ideas such as spices, heather and flowering ground covers. Call me, Susan Park, at 440-9149 with your ideas.
