Nathan Hale High Notes

By BARBARA PETERSON

The Nathan Hale High School Vocal and Instrumental Jazz Ensembles brought back awards from the 37th annual Clark College Jazz Festival held in late January. Vocal Jazz took first place in the AA division and the Jazz Band took second place in the AA instrumental division. Special recognition went to vocalist Bryan Watson and trumpeter Brian Goetz as outstanding soloists.

Later, in early February, the Instrumental Jazz Ensemble was awarded first place in the AA/A division at the Viking Jazz Festival held in Poulsbo. Rich Sumstad is the Nathan Hale music director.

SWING INTO SPRING: On Saturday, March 27, Nathan Hale High School PTSA sponsors "Swing into Spring," a swing dance for students, parents, and the community.

The event begins at 8 p.m with a one-hour dance workshop followed by the dance from 9 p.m. to midnight in the school gym. Pictures, along with a Dessert and Beverage Bar, will be available in the cafeteria. Tickets at $10 per person and $25 per family will be sold at the door.

Proceeds go to the PTSA senior activities fund used primarily for Senior Spree, an alcohol and substance-free post-graduation party for seniors.

Barbara Peterson is PTSA president at Nathan Hale High School. She can be reached at 364-8767.
