A Candle party will be held on Saturday, March 6, to raise money for the Sacajawea Playground Fund, co-sponsored by the PTA and the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority at the University of Washington.

Katie Stone, vice president for the sorority and project chair, announced that the sorority is sponsoring a community-wide candle sale with professional representatives from a candle company on hand. A portion of the sales will benefit the playground fund.

The playground equipment at Sacajawea Elementary in North Seattle was burned down by arson the night of Oct. 1. The play equipment had just been put up 10 years ago and was covered by the school's insurance, however the deductible on the policy would have cost more than the playground equipment, so that was not an option.

The candle party will be held at Sacajawea Elementary, 9501 NE 20th. Admission is free with refreshments available. Hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Free parking at the school. For more information, contact Cynthia White of the Sacajawea PTA at 527-8379.
